The Idea behind Dreamy goes to the Moon

Hello, I’m D. L. Willowlight. Yes, that is a pen name. I write children’s books, and I like to keep a little bit of mystery about who I am. It makes me feel like a secret storyteller who pops out of the shadows with a paintbrush and a cup of tea.

I grew up travelling all over the United Kingdom. New towns, new schools, new friends, new accents I had to figure out. Life changed a lot, but one thing never did. Art. Drawing and painting were the only things that stayed with me no matter where I ended up. If I had a pencil and a scrap of paper, I was happy.

Eventually I went to college and studied for a BTEC National Diploma in Multimedia. At the time I honestly thought it was a completely useless qualification. I imagined it would sit in a drawer forever, quietly judging me. Then I became a mam, and suddenly all those skills I thought I’d never use turned out to be exactly what I needed.

One day my son told me this wild idea about a tractor flying to the moon, meeting aliens, and having the best time ever. I looked at him and thought, “Well… why not?” So in December 2024 I decided I was going to write children’s books. I wanted to create that story for him, something he could hold in his hands and say, “My mam made this.”

Now it’s 2026. Dreamy Goes to the Moon is out in the world, and I’m busy illustrating the next adventure although this time I am going digital. I’ve followed my dreams, become a creative, and somehow turned motherhood, art, and a flying tractor into a real author career.

I hope my stories bring a little magic into your home, the same way they did in mine.
